Donne e bambine che svolgono lavori usuranti in India
La condizione della donna in India è alla ribalta della cronaca in questi mesi. Tuttavia è importante sottolineare come anche nel settore del lavoro le donne di classe sociale più umile o di villaggi poveri siano impiegate al pari degli uomini in lavori pesanti e usuranti, fatte salve tutte le altre incombenze quali la cura dei figli e della casa. Spesso si tratta di donne bambine, magari già sposate in età molto precoce.
Anche se la legge indiana dal 2006 vieta il lavoro di bambini al di sotto dei 14 anni, nei villaggi le comunità sopravvivono in un limbo estraneo alla società moderna. Sono organizzate in maniera collettiva e il lavoro è svolto da tutti, senza distinzione di sesso o età. Si tratta spesso di lavori sottopagati e usuranti. Non è infrequente che lo stesso governo locale, che dovrebbe tutelare i diritti dei più poveri, sfrutti queste persone come manovalanza a basso costo per costruire edifici pubblici, o per altri lavori che riguardano beni dello stato.
Qui i lavoratori ricevono stipendi pari a 50-100 euro al mese. La gallery racconta delle donne impiegate come muratori nella costruzione di un resort per ricchi, vicino il Tiger Lake in un villaggio povero nei pressi di Udaipur (Rajahstan). Donne che lavorano come muratori si vedono un po’ ovunque in India e sempre sono presenti minori che svolgono lo stesso lavoro, si tratta di bambini o giovani “prestati” dalle famiglie in difficoltà.

Women and girls carrying out strenuous work in India
The status of women in India is in the news in recent months. However, it is important to note that even in the field of work women of humble social class or poor villages are employed as men in heavy and arduous professions, as also subject to all other tasks such as caring for children and the home. Often these women are only girls, maybe already married at a very early age.
Although Indian law since 2006 prohibits the employment of children under the age of 14, the village communities survive in a limbo separated from the modern society. They are organized in a collective manner, and the work is done by the whole community, regardless of gender or age. People here are underpaid and make very arduous works. It is not uncommon that the same local government, which should protect the rights of the poor, exploits these people as cheap labor for public buildings, or for other works involving state's properties or, as in another report recorded in the same area, to wash the sheets and medical supplies of the nearby state's hospital, with significant risks to the health of workers.
The workers receive salaries equivalent to 50-100 euro per month, or just a few hundred rupees per diem. The gallery shows the women employed as masons in the construction of a resort for the rich, near the Tiger Lake in a poor village near Udaipur (Rajahstan). Young or old women employed as masons are to be seen everywhere in India and always in a construction site are minors, children of workers or provided by other families in difficulties.
